"Alexa, Please Ship One of These to Every Person on This Planet”

DIET CULTURE SUCKS. It completely rules our society, and has such a negative impact on our happiness and well-being. Diet culture has convinced us that we need to deprive our bodies of what they need in order to achieve impossible standards of “beauty” and “perfection.” Not only does this result in people depriving their bodies of food and good nutrition, but it also deprives lives of happiness.

Diet culture can make us miss out on the things that give our lives value. We may miss out on making memories with our friends and families, because we’ve become convinced that we are not worthy of enjoying the foods that diet culture has deemed as “bad.” So instead, we sit and watch while others allow themselves to enjoy a delicious treat or meal.

I’ve definitely been guilty of this before, but I get such a pit in my stomach when I hear people talk about how they shouldn’t eat something because it’s “bad” and they’re trying to lose weight. That they don’t deserve to have that brownie because they didn’t work out today, or they order a salad instead of the bowl of pasta that they truly wanted, because pasta has too many carbs, and carbs are “bad.” I hate how prevalent diet talk is, and unfortunately many individuals fail to realize how triggering it can be for some individuals.

Please challenge yourself to resist diet culture. Remind yourself and others that you do not have to earn food, EVER. You are always and forever deserving of giving your body what it wants and needs. And regardless of the messages that we receive from the media, we are more than enough just as we are. But as always- progress, not perfection. |📷 from thankubody on Etsy|
