You Can't Pour From An Empty Glass.

Oh, I love this so much. In this analogy, I think it’s safe to say that the majority of people can recognize that filling your car with 1/8 tank of gas, and expecting to drive 400 miles is outrageous and impossible. And yet, that same majority, myself included, has fallen into the trap of diet culture, thinking that it’s ok and necessary to do this to our bodies. That we should deprive our bodies of calories and food groups, yet still live a normal life, and doing the most, always.

It infuriates me to recognize the harmful beliefs around food and physical appearance that diet culture has imposed on us. Causing us to fear calories and certain foods. Making us believe that we now have to earn the right to eat something, no longer inherently deserving it, as well as needing to compensate for whatever it is that we “splurge” on.

By no means is it easy to go against these messages and negative tendencies that are promoted in our society in various ways. The messages are everywhere. But, there’s power in recognizing that they were only created so that the diet industry can profit. Imagine if there comes a day when everyone embraces who they were, recognizing that they are beautiful and enough just as they are. These diet companies would go out of business, so of course they are going to continue to try and convince us that we are not good enough.

But I challenge you to join me, in doing your very best to remind yourself that these messages are bullsh*t. To stand up and use your voice when yourself or those around you are falling victim to diet culture beliefs. Instead of comparing food labels, searching for the lowest calorie choice, listen to your body and trust that its craving what it needs. And when you find yourself really wanting that brownie, but are hesitant because its “bad,” or you didn’t work out so you “can’t” have it, please- eat the damn brownie babe. But as always- progress, not perfection. 📷 from@hgoodrichrd
